The Parody Songs Of Lalo Guerrero
Posted in Uncategorized by admin at 12:00 am | Comments Off

Lalo Guerrero was a celebrated Mexican-American guitarist and musician. He embraced the folksy roots of Mexican music and created his own enduring form of Chicano. His career spanned six decades, and his distinct style of music has had a lasting influence on the Latin world. In 1980, the Smithsonian Institute declared Lalo Guerrero a national folk treasure. Lalo Guerrero passed away on March 17th, 2005.

Lalo Guerrero created a variety of different types of Latin music in his lifetime. He wrote Latin swing songs, Zoot Suit compositions, as well as children-s tunes. However, Lalo Guerrero is probably best known for creating parody songs. Pancho Lopez was his first American hit single; the song is a Latin parody of The Ballad of Davy Crocket, which was a smash hit in 1950. Pancho Lopez incorporated the melody of Davy Crockett; the lyrics, however, were written by Lalo Guerrero, and told the story of a Mexican character named Pancho Lopez. After the runaway success of Pancho Lopez other parody songs followed. Pancho Claus, Elvis Perez, and Tacos for Two, are classic examples of Lalo Guerrero-s famous parody songs. These songs illustrate Lalo-s Mexican-American heritage, and bring out the best of both distinct cultures.More info here: Beats, rhymes and life along the journey…(and goodbye to Facundo Cabral)
